What happens during a Shiatsu session?

A Shiatsu session begins with a consultation and Shiatsu diagnosis to enable a personalised treatment to be given.

One of the main forms of Shiatsu diagnosis used is Oriental Hara diagnosis.  Different diagnostic areas, on the abdomen, relating to specific energy channels within the body are lightly touched thereby guiding the individual treatment to be given.

Unique to Shiatsu, you remain fully clothed during the whole treatment.

You have the choice of receiving Shiatsu either in the traditional way (laying on a futon) or sitting in a specially adapted, supportive massage chair.

If laying on a futon, you may lie in whatever position is most comfortable for you (on your back, front or side).  Supportive cushions may be used to enhance your comfort.

Shiatsu involves applying gentle or deep perpendicular pressure along the body's natural energy pathways (meridians) and appropriate acupuncture and stress release points.  Stretches and joint mobilisation may also be included where appropriate.

By connecting with this energy flow, blockages can be released enabling natural balance to be restored.

Recommendations appropriate to the individual can be made.
